The Old Post Office
One of the most characterful buildings in Cornwall and a house of great antiquity, this small 14th century manor is full of charm and interest. Tumble roofed and weathered by the centuries, this building was converted in 1844 into a letter receiving office for the district.
Now in the care of the National Trust the building is open to the public. It has been furnished with oak furniture that would have been found in local cottages. Well worth a visit and positioned in the centre of the village.
Tintagel Castle
Situated on the dramatic coastline, Tintagel Castle is an awe inspiring and romantic place of legends.
Joined to the mainland by a narrow neck of land, Tintagel Island faces the full force of the Atlantic Ocean. The gaunt remains of the medieval castle represents only one phase in a long history of occupation. Even before Richard Earl of Cornwall built his castle, Tintagel was associated with the conception of King Arthur.
The remains of the 13th century castle are breathtaking. Steep stone steps, stout walls and rugged windswept cliffs encircle the Great Hall, where Richard once feasted.
English Heritage now care for this wonderful monument . A short audio visual tour through the ages introduces visitors to the castle, it’s legends and history.
Trebarwith Strand
Situated on one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline along the South West Coast Path.
Trebarwith is a tidal beach, at high tide the sea covers the sand and rocks. There is over a mile of golden sand washed twice daily by the tide. Lifeguards patrol the beach from 10am – 6pm every day between May 17th and September 23rd.
At low tide there are rock pools and weathered rock formations. Look out for the beautiful pink rock pools, lined with quartz. Little pools are formed at low tide, a child's delight.
Trebarwith is a great surfing beach with something for everyone. There is a Surf School for absolute beginners or those wishing to improve their technique. Situated on the cliffs overlooking the beach is the Port William pub and restaurant. A fantastic place to sit and watch the sun set over this lovely beach.
